Welcome to Osprey Airborne Solutions

Osprey Airborne Solutions was formed to provide innovative services to the utilities sector.  The company has over 15 years of experience in providing both aerial powerline inspection surveys on transmission and distribution lines and spatial mapping acquisition, analysis and management.

Aerial surveillance work can significantly aid power companies in identifying various defects that have the potential to disrupt electricity transmission or cause harm e.g. cause bushfires or effect system reliability and safety.  They include vegetation incursions; construction defects; and/or fault and critical defects that effect system dependability during times of adverse weather conditions etc.

Osprey Airborne Solutions has a wealth of experience in servicing energy supply companies and offer a unique method of information capture whereby all resulting data is fully geo-located and able to be directly integrated into existing GIS systems and databases.  In addition, the degree of accuracy of asset identification is greatly enhanced when compared with other suppliers.  This leads to significant efficiency gains in asset data capture by the contractor and data selection and manipulation by the client.

The company offers a consistent approach when conducting aerial surveillance work on overhead electricity networks, including the use of standardised procedures for the recording and provision of powerline data.

Osprey incorporates specialised equipment into contractor aircraft to undertake aerial assessments.  Osprey can also provide custom aircraft within Australia and Asia, these helicopters are uniquely suited to powerline work and other noise sensitive activities.  They also improve the safety conditions for staff.

The features of the Osprey system are:
  • High standoff - up to 500 feet from wires
  • Very high resolution images - small features such as bolts and ties can be easily resolved
  • Absolute situational awareness - advanced navigation provided pilot and observers with location of assets and obstacles.
  • Photos linked to assets - Multiple photos captured of asset and spatially linked to that asset
  • Fault reporting back to client - using client’s data input format and fault codes

Safety of employees, customers, the general public and property is a priority for Osprey Airborne Solutions, and this is ensured through stringent OH&S procedures and training, as well as through the use of the most appropriate equipment for the task that complies with or exceeds all regulatory and legislative requirements.
